Migraines can be a real problem especially when you are working 9 to 5 and you just can’t afford to be unproductive at work. The duration vary from one case to another. There may also be pain in the areas surrounding the eyes, temporary blind spots and blurred vision.

Still, it does not happen out of the blue. Although the underlying causes of migraine headaches is still up for debate, there are predisposing factors that can trigger its attack. Migraine headaches are basically caused by the inflammation or constriction of the blood vessels in the head. The changes in the size of the vessels may be due to some medical conditions such as lesions and inflammations caused by infections. If the migraine headaches become severe and frequent, it is important that you go to your doctor and seek medical help.

Environmental and other physiological factors may also contribute in the occurrence of migraine headaches. One factor is stress-related. Over exertion and over fatigue especially in the eye area can cause severe migraine. Depression and anxiety are also factors that you should look into.

Other medical conditions that can start a migraine attack are colds, cough, influenza, and sinusitis. Food and diet may also play a role. Some experts believe that eating chocolates, drinking coffee and abusing alcoholic drinks may contribute in the attack. Sensorial triggers such as over bright lights, too much noise and strong odors may also trigger an attack.

Let each child know that there is another person that is similar to the farm animal given to him or her to act like. Throughout this party the children should ask to one another yes and no questions. They should eventually figure out who is the same animal as him or her.

After the party, let everyone sit down beside who they think is their “Barn Buddy”. If they got the wrong “Barn Buddy” review the clues with the children. As soon as everyone figures out the right buddy, let them sit again beside their “Farm Buddies”.

Fruit Basket

Form a circle with chairs. The chairs should be one less than the number of players. The person standing says,”I’m grateful for… (a characteristic, outfit or state of a person)” and every child with that characteristic stands up and scurries for another chair to sit on. While the children are searching for another chair, someone takes one chair away.

One child will have no chair to sit on and will have to be out of the game. The last person to be able to sit down will again say,” I’m gratefull for…” And this will be repeated until you wish to end the game.

Tug Of Water

This game can only be done if you have a sprinkler. Set on the srinkler in your yard or lawn. Divide the children into two groups. Each group should hold on an end of a garden hose. As soon as a non-player says, “Go!” each group starts to pull on the rope with the objective of leading or pulling the opposing team into the srinkler. Of course, the team that gets wet loses and the team that stays dry wins.

Freeze!

When the music starts playing the children starts dancing and moving to the beat. They dance until the music is stopped then they should freeze even though they are in a difficult position. Whoever is caught moving is out of the game.

Migraine headaches affect about 15 percent of the population. Although men can actually suffer from migraines, it is the women that are more affected. Prevention is still the number one treatment for migraine. The best way is to make sure that one avoids the factors that may trigger the attack.

One of those factors is stress. By learning to relax a bit and do some stress management, one can prevent migraine headaches from recurring. Try to spread your workload to a degree, which you can manage. Rest for a while when you feel that you are getting tired.

Another great way is to deal with the attack head on.

Relieve the pain in the head by keeping warm and avoiding extreme temperatures. If the problem is the position of the head when you are sleeping, buy a different pillow. Choose a fluffier one that will cushion your head better. You can also experiment with a different sleeping position.

You can also rub your temples and massage the area that is painful. Try to close your eyes for a while and let it rest especially when you have been staring at the computer screen for a long time.

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

4 cups chopped lettuce

2 small tomatoes, chopped

1 can (2-1/4 ounce size) sliced ripe olives, drained

1 1/4 cup salsa

1/2 cup sour cream

Directions:

In a saucepan or microwave-safe bowl, heat the beans. Place corn chips on a large platter. Top with beans, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, olives, salsa and sour cream. Serve immediately.

ZESTY TACO SALAD RECIPE

Ingredients:

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 clove garlic finely chopped

3/4 pound ground turkey

1 3/4 teaspoon chili powder

1/4 teaspoon ground cumin

3 cups washed torn lettuce leaves

14 1/2 ounces can Mexican style diced tomatoes drained

1 cup rinsed drained canned garbanzo beans or pinto beans

2/3 cup chopped peeled cucumber

1/3 cup frozen whole kernel corn thawed

1/4 cup chopped red onion

2 jalapeno peppers seeded finely chopped optional

1 tablespoon red wine vinegar

12 nonfat tortilla chips

fresh greens optional

Directions:

Combine oil and garlic in small bowl; let stand 1 hour at room temperature. Combine turkey, chili powder and cumin in large nonstick skillet. Cook over medium heat for 5 minutes or until turkey in no longer pink, stirring to crumble.

Combine turkey, lettuce, tomatoes, beans, cucumber, corn, onion and jalapeno in large bowl. Remove garlic from oil; discard garlic. Combine oil and vinegar in small bowl. Drizzle over salad; toss to coat. Serve on tortilla chips and fresh greens if available.

Joseph Pilates’ original studies involved years of research, virtually unrecognized in his lifetime, but now world-renowned. By Jeff P. Anliker, LMT<br><br>While there are a lot of rumors about carpal tunnel syndrome and computer use, it is hard to find a definitive answer on what, if any, actual link there is between the development of carpal tunnel syndrome and the use of computers.

<br>Does computer use increase one’s chances of developing carpal tunnel syndrome? If you do a “search” on the internet, you can find several stories that say no, and just as many that say yes . . . sometimes even from the same source! While there are still some conflicting beliefs on how the use of computers affects a person’s chance of getting carpal tunnel syndrome, the injury seems to be more prevalent than ever before.
<br>
<br>There is a general belief that working for extended periods of time using a computer will lead to an increase in carpal tunnel syndrome, and that jobs such as data entry lead to higher risk of carpal tunnel syndrome. Since carpal tunnel syndrome is caused by constant repetitive or static motion of the hands and wrists, logically this would make sense. There are several studies that initially suggested that the repetitive motion and static flexion involved when using a computer causes irritation and swelling of the flexor tendon sheaths, resulting in the impingement of the median nerve and the diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome. Though this is not conclusively proven in studies, what is proven is that any task that involves excessive use of the hands in activities that require duration, repetition and force does in fact cause carpal tunnel syndrome.
<br>
<br>Carpal tunnel syndrome can be caused by anything that involves excessive unidirectional movement patterns that require too much force, duration and repetition, as the overused muscles actually become stronger, shorter and tighter than their opposition, the extensor muscles. The stronger flexor muscles begin to compress the carpal tunnel and the median nerve within. The tendons that pass through the carpal tunnel (a small area between the carpal bones and the transverse carpal ligament in the wrist) can become swollen from doing the same movement over and over, like typing on a computer for extended periods of time.
<br>
<br>Some people might think that carpal tunnel syndrome is a new condition of the information technology age, born from long hours of computer keyboarding, but carpal tunnel is not new, it just seems to appear more often because the nature of work has changed. More jobs are highly specialized and require the overuse of only a small number of muscles repeatedly, leading to a muscle imbalance. If one muscle group is overused, then the opposing muscle group must be underused. It is basic common sense.
<br>
<br>Because of the underlying assumption that computer use contributes to carpal tunnel syndrome, concern from the government and employers continues to grow. Ironically, studies out of the Mayo Clinic released by the government seem to actually show that using a computer does not increase the risk of developing carpal tunnel syndrome. There are arguments over why this is.
<br>
<br>The test showed that those who worked a long period of time every day with computers had the same percentage of becoming afflicted with carpal tunnel syndrome as everyone else. One of the suggestions for the reasoning is that the continued use of computers would only affect people who did not practice appropriate form. People who are employed to work with computers are generally better trained in how to type from home row, how to keep their wrists straight, use ergonomic keyboards, chairs, screens, mouse and know how to use good posture.
<br>
<br>All of these factors can help decrease instances of carpal tunnel syndrome, which in turn can help keep the number of injuries down. On the other side of the equation, computer use by individuals who hold their wrists and fingers improperly, put unequal pressure on their hands, don’t use ergonomic tools or proper posture may become afflicted with cause carpal tunnel syndrome more frequently than those using appropriate form and proper ergonomic tools.
<br>
<br>This may certainly be the reason why the belief that computer use causes carpal tunnel syndrome remains strong, even when testing suggests otherwise. Individuals trained in how to properly use a computer will know what or what not to do in most cases. Computer users engaged in a good ergonomic prevention program at work will know which stretches and exercises to perform, know how to use good posture and utilize the latest ergonomic equipment, and hence not experience the same injuries and muscle imbalances as say someone who does not use appropriate form, ergonomic tools or perform muscle balancing exercises and stretches.
<br>
<br>While the studies suggest that extensive use of a computer does not contribute to carpal tunnel syndrome, even that piece of information should come with its own caveat, that being that proper use of a computer appears to not increase the chances of carpal tunnel. But people certainly need to learn to use proper posture, use good ergonomic equipment and know appropriate stretches and exercises to perform because excessive use of the computer without proper hand positions or use of poor equipment leads to imbalances in the hands, wrists, forearms and shoulders that can contribute to the onset of carpal tunnel syndrome.
<br>
<br>With carpal tunnel syndrome being so prevalent in the past decade, it is best to take all preventative methods available and implement them into one’s daily work regimen. It is easier to prevent an injury than having to address it once it is already present. Prevention is the cure for carpal tunnel syndrome.
